Semi- Annual Photo Competition
Photography Entry Rules
APRIL AND NOVEMBER 2015
Entry Rules
- Only one entry per person per category is permitted.
Photo must be entrant’s own work. Photo must have been taken 1 year from
entry date and must be a first time competition entry at Spencer-Penn
competition.
- Amateur photographers only - photography is
a hobby—not means of livelihood past or present. Entrants will be separated
into novice/beginner and experienced divisions.
- Photos may not be digitally manipulated in basic
categories; however, they can be entered in a specially designated “Digitally
Manipulated” category.
- Prints may be made from either home or commercial
printers.
- Prints must be 8” x 10” in size and mounted in an 11” x
14” mat. Mats must be white in color. (Mats may be purchased at the
Spencer-Penn Centre with advance notice.) No frames allowed.
- Items of an offensive, controversial or objectionable
nature or subject matter as determined by Director of Spencer-Penn Centre
and/or the judges in keeping with family values and community standards.
- Photographs must be entered in
person by the entrant or their designated representative on the first Monday
and Tuesday of both April and November of each year,
between 2 and 7 pm at the Centre.
Photographs will be displayed for that month and picked up the following month. Any item not picked up may become the property of the Centre.
- Photographs of children (under age 18) must be that of the entrant
and/or
their relative or accompanied by a signed release from the child’s
parent/legal guardian. Release forms are available at the Centre.
- Youth entrants are judged with adults until number of
entries by youth justifies their own division.
- $1 entry fee will be charged for each photograph entered
in competition, with a maximum fee of $10 per person. (17 possible entries)
Fees collected goes to support needed projects at Spencer-Penn such as paving
the parking lot. Number of entries at Spencer-Penn gives
entrants 17 choices as Patrick County Fair limits entries to 4
and State Fair limits entries to 10.
Categories
Portraits:
Depiction of a personality, head or full figure, posed or informal (not candid)
where the person is the main interest. Duos are permitted.
Black and white and
color judged separately.
Human Interest:
People interacting with others or their environment, candid. Black-and-white
and color judged separately.
Landscapes:
Scenic & architectural, water, sunsets, buildings, roads, etc. Black-and-white
and color judged separately.
Floral:
Flowers, gardens & plants cultivated or wild. Black-and-white and color judged
separately.
Animals: Wild
or domestic, pets. Black-and-white and color judged separately.
Children:
Including babies. Black-and-white and color judged separately.
Still Life:
Arrangement of design elements within a composition as a grouping of inanimate
and non-moving objects, which
may be natural (food, flowers, plants, rocks, shells, etc) or man-made
(books, vases, jewelry, coins, etc.

Spencer-Penn Centre
Remembered: Depiction of any aspect of Spencer-Penn Centre from the
previous year. Black-and-white and color judged together.
Humor: Makes
us laugh. Black-and-white and color judged together.
Digital Manipulation:
Any subject. Must be the original work of the exhibitor. Black-and-white and
color judged together.
Photography Judging
- Program Manager of Spencer-Penn Centre will approve the
judging of the photographs.
- Any judges selected will not be allowed to judge
photographs of their family or any conflict of interest issues.
- A ribbon will be awarded for first, second, and third
place in each category listed above. When black-and-white and color are
judged separately prizes will be awarded for each. Prizes will be awarded
separately for novice/beginner and experienced photographer divisions. If any
category has less than 5 entries, all 3 prizes may not be awarded.
- “Honorable mention” and "Best of Show" ribbons will be awarded as
appropriate.
- Judging criteria will include impact, composition,
lighting, and simplicity.
- Spencer-Penn Centre is not responsible for photos lost
or damaged. Photos not picked up by the deadline may become the
property of the Centre.
- Names of winners will be posted on this site/page the
same week of judging.
